1. Actual work done
One of my primary jobs was to manage all workstations in MFCHINA
domain in McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator. This task included adding system
individual system to system tree, deploying McAfee agents to built communication
channel between systems and the central server, and monitoring the anti-virus states.
This job was almost done by the Monday, when I submitted a progress report to
describe the management details.
My second primary job was to develop a method
in order to install a Canon printer remotely. I spent the next four days with this
task.
2. Technical involvement
I had been fully prepared for the first task in the last week, so there was no significant problem about this task. In order to accomplish the second task, I learnt more about VB and VBScript. Also I learnt a new language AutoIT. Additonally, I learnt about printer rundll command and its functionalities, together with the registry. I then had a clear idea of retrieving information from registry automatically.
3. Problem and results
Firstly I tried AutoIT script with Windows Add Printer Wizard to implement the driver installation. However considering the difference between OS, system languages and some other settings, I tried no-user-interaction method with printer rundll command to add printer. But this trail failed because printer rundll command could not add TCP\IP port, which is a must for the printer I was working on. Then I tried to edit the register directly to add TCP\IP port.
