Biweekly Report - Report 2

week 3 – week 4 (14/6 – 25/6)

1. Things I did:

In these two weeks my primary job was to evaluate the software McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) in order to improve the anti-virus management system. I compared the differences of version 4.0 and version 4.5 of this software, and then focused on ePO 4.5’s features and installation procedures. In the meantime, I also studied MS SQL Server 2005 express, since such a database server was required for the use of ePO. I built and configured SQL server in local host and tried to make remote connection between the database server and the remoter server where ePO would be installed. After my evaluation, I prepared three documents to describe the installation, deployment and update of ePO system for further use.

Also I tried to writing script using C# programming language, together with .NET framework, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and Active Directory, to discovery PCs and their information. As usual, I tried my best to solve desktop issues for colleagues. I used Adobe Acrobat to help colleague making forms and learnt JavaScript for Acrobat and ADBC for Acrobat’s database features for further support. I also helped to relocate and reinstall computers for colleagues. In the rest of time, I checked the version of MS Office for colleagues and updated the software if necessary.

2. Things I learnt:

Technologically, I learnt lot about Anti-virus system and how it worked; I learnt about SQL server since it was the first time for me to build a SQL server on Windows system; I also learnt some C# programming, WMI script, JavaScript and ADBC. Non-technologically, I tried to talk to colleagues using Cantonese more. I hoped these practice might improve my communication and language skill, and also my inter-personal ability.

3. Feelings

I am happy with new desk settled on the first day of these two weeks. It makes me enjoy my work environment even better. Everyone is hard working and quiet. It impresses me and makes me work harder and more efficiently. Also I make friends with colleagues around. We enjoy talking in Cantonese as well as Mandarin in break time. Besides, I am excited about the ‘Friday Tea’, which seems like a tradition now.
